RE and Collective Worship

As a Church of England School we value our strong links with Rev. Sheila Morton at St. Nicholas’ Church. We have also continued our links with Joanne Gaunt, the lower school worker for the Christian Support Trust, who leads our collective worship on a regular basis. She also runs a weekly lunchtime Christian Club which is proving very popular with the older children.

The Open the Book organisation visit regularly too, with a lively and entertaining approach to Bible stories.

Geoff Bent, the new headteacher at Alban took an Assembly with all the children. A Harvest assembly took place in school to which parents were invited.

We visited Hitchin and were shown round St Mary’s Church by the incumbent, giving us a chance to visit another place of worship as part of our RE studies. At the Church Christmas carol service, the children dressed up in costume from the play and members of the community were invited to join in. Tea and mince pies were provided by the FOW. At our end of Easter term church service, the children accompanied one of the hymns playing cello, xylophone and recorder.

Our end of year Assembly and concert took place in school. Joanne Gaunt from the Christian Support Trust joined us and the Year 3/4 children’s school orchestra, which included clarinets, cellos, xylophones and recorders, performed work arranged by Mrs Manderson. The younger children performed a short musical play.
