Our Vision and Values

 

The mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches. Matthew: 13, v 32

 

In partnership with parents, governors, St Nicholas Church and community, we strive to ensure all children are embraced and nurtured.  Our creative curriculum teaches our children to be generous, loving, resilient, inquisitive and courageous; enabling them to flourish as they journey through God’s ever-changing garden of life. SIAMS - November 2019 - rated GOOD

At Wilden VA Primary School we aim to provide a happy and stimulating ‘family’ atmosphere in which every child has the opportunity to flourish. Lessons are carefully planned using the National Curriculum in a creative and purposeful way. Children play a lead role at our school with small classes enabling teachers to tailor learning to suit the individual.

We believe it is important for children to acquire a set of moral values, to gain self-respect, self-discipline, respect for others and property, and to be honest. Our aim is for pupils to feel secure and happy and demonstrate courtesy.

Each child is encouraged to gain confidence and a positive working attitude along with enjoyment of school life. They are given the opportunity to acquire the ability to work on their own, with others and to explore a variety of roles.

At Wilden VA Church of England Primary School we explore monthly values which are closely linked to the Diocese calendar.

Children and staff discuss and reflect on each value during Collective Worship, Circle Time and in and around the school on a daily basis. The language of mutual respect is encouraged and regularly celebrated. Each week, the school gathers for a special Golden Notebook Assembly during which individuals who have shown to be following these principles are nominated for a special award. Values are shared with parents through newsletters and the learning platform so discussions can extend out beyond the school.

We believe incorporating these values help to encourage our children to gain self-esteem and self-worth, they become more willing to get involved with decision-making, they become more engaged with the school, and they learn better self-control through thinking more intelligently. Relationships improve, with people in the school valuing each other, gaining a better understanding of themselves and the world around them, and providing an additional tool to resolve disagreements.

When we actively engage with values we start to understand their implications for making choices about our attitudes and responses. A Values-based approach encourages reflective and inspirational attributes and attitudes. These can be nurtured to help people discover the very best of themselves, which enables them to be good citizens and prepare them for the life of work. It equips children with social capacities that help them work with, and relate to others effectively. It provides them with the self-esteem and confidence to explore and develop their full potential.

We explore a different Value each month but return frequently to those we have discussed previously. Values have become an embedded part of our Christian Distinctiveness especially within the vocabulary and actions of both staff and children.
